The Press Council of India (PCI) is a statutory, quasi-judicial, and autonomous body established in 1966 (re-established under the 1978 Act) to preserve press freedom and improve journalism standards in India. Headed by a Chairman, it acts as a watchdog, enforcing ethical codes on print media and investigating complaints against or by the press.
