A good resume writing is an art or skill which a job seeker needs to learn, without a good resume he cannot stand out of the crowd of several competitors, and his resume not be shortlisted for further for the interview subsequent failure of getting succeed in his career.
To write a good resume, we discuss here 15 most important points to consider while preparing resume.
- Choose a Right Resume Format: It is very important to choose a correct resume format.
Normally there are 3 types of formats in which job seekers give shape to his resume.
a) Reverse Chronological format: Experienced employees use this well-known type in which they write current experience first and early experiences later in the resume.
b) Functional Format: This types a good choice for entry level candidates and those who have little or less experience.
c) Hybrid / Combination Format: This type is also a good choice.

2. Up-To-Date Resume Contact Information: In the header section contact information must so that recruiter easily connect you post & prior to interview.
Include your full name (No Nickname) , current Address, Mobile Number, Email Id (The one which you check regularly), LinkedIn Profile or any available Online profile. Photo is optional , as many recruiter required photos for identification purpose.
3.Type of Resume Profile: There are 2 types of resume profiles –
a) Professional Summary Type: Experienced guys should choose this type and provide a overview of his work experience, Skills, and core competencies.
b)Professional Objective Type: Entry level candidates choose this type and provide their knowledge & skills.
4. Customized/Tailormade Resume: Customization required when you go for applying for a specific job role, so customize the resume according to specific job.
5. ATS compliant Resume: Nowadays most of the recruiters use Applicant Tracking Systems to shortlisting of the suitable Applicant.

6. Professional, Attractive Font & Formatting: The resume should have a organized and consistent layout with hierarchy of headings, subheadings and bullet points to make it easy for recruiters for reading and getting the information very well.
Use Bold, Caps & Italics emphasize important information such as job titles, skill set or company names etc. Font types should be Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial, avoid funny & decorative fonts. Font size should be between 10 and 12 points, for headings can be use little bit larger fonts.
7. Add Achievements & Recognitions: Most important to add achievements and recognitions and should be specific and all details of it like what & when you achieved.
8. Education Section: The education section must include schooling & college details with list of Degree/Diploma and its completion information. For highly experienced professionals only last degree/diploma is sufficient but fresher & entry level candidates list their schooling, college with more details about their degree/diploma.
9. Technical & Soft Skills: Do not forget to include core competencies whether it is a technical or soft skill, but be careful to include only relevant skillset which means for recruiters.

10. Quantify Achievements: While include any of achievement, must be with quantifiable data like “Achieved 130% Dispatch volume in 2nd Qtr.”
11. Use Action Verbs: Use action verbs (Oversaw, Persuaded etc.) and avoid weak verbs(Worked, Study etc.) in the resume .
12. Add Hobbies & Interests: Include hobbies and interests in the resume is a good way to present one’s personality, skills & qualities that relevant to the jobs. Mention only those hobbies which match the job and company culture. Hobbies like chess or puzzle solver will reflect the problem-solving skill of the candidate.
Interest in team sports like football etc. will show one’s leadership and team building ability.
13. Proof Read the Resume: Spelling mistakes & bad formatting puts a negative impression to recruiters. So always proof read the resume before sending it out. One can use embedded spell checker or App “Grammarly” to checking the spelling and correct it.
14. Naming Resume File: Naming of the file is most important step, and need to pay attention while naming it and need following dos and don’ts –
Dos – Use Full Name first and add descriptor follow with date for example: Ashish_Kumar_CV_20231001
Don’ts – Avoid spaces, special characters and symbols as most system poses trouble
15. Cover Letter: Submission of cover letter with a good resume is a good practice. Mention in depth work history, relevant experiences, Qualifications, professional expertise in the cover letter to demonstrate a best candidate for the required role.
One should keep updated the resume every once in a week.
